Speaker Biography
Chris Dunn, IPIA Food Safety Consultant, is retired from NSF International, where he managed the global Beverage Quality program offering food safety certifications (NSF, SQF, BRC) as well as laboratory testing, food safety audits, and consulting and training for bottled water, natural mineral water, flavored beverages, and packaged ice. Chris is also qualified as a beverage auditor, food safety trainer, and "Lead Instructor" for the FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food (PCQI) training program referenced under the FDA's Preventive Controls regulations.

This session is ideal for safety personnel, plant owners, supervisors, and employees responsible for workplace safety, providing essential tools and insights to mitigate risks and promote a culture of safety within their organization.
 
In this comprehensive Safety Program training, participants will delve into the critical components of an OSHA Recordkeeping Program, along with various elements of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance, including Emergency Action Plan (EAP) development, Lockout Tagout (LOTO), Confined Spaces, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), among others, ensuring a safety work environment for all employees.

​• OSHA Recordkeeping: A detailed review of the requirements for a successful OSHA Recordkeeping System. Participants will learn how to manage an OSHA Log, as well as how to differentiate between OSHA-Recordable and Non-Recordable Injuries.

• Emergency Response Procedures: Participants will learn how to develop and execute clear protocols for emergencies such as fires, chemical spills, and medical emergencies.

• Emergency Evacuation Procedures: Detailed exploration of emergency evacuation maps, fire extinguishers, emergency eye wash stations, safety showers, and their strategic placement within the workplace.

•Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Insight into the importance of respiratory protection and hearing conservation in safeguarding employees against occupational hazards. Discussions will cover selection, fit testing, and compliance with regulatory standards, including mandatory records retention.

• Fall Protection: Comprehensive review of fall protection systems and practices to prevent injuries in elevated work environments. Participants will learn about OSHA’s Fall Protection Regulations, equipment inspection and proper usage.

• Confined Space Requirements: Strategies for safely working in confined spaces, including identification, evaluation, and mitigation of risks. The session will emphasize the importance of confined space entry permits, reclassification permits, atmospheric testing, and emergency rescue plans.

• Lockout/Tagout/Tryout Procedures: Examination of lockout/tagout/tryout procedures to control hazardous energy sources during equipment maintenance and servicing. Participants will learn how to develop machine specific lockout/tagout/tryout procedures for effective isolation, verification, and restoration of energy sources.

• Machine Guarding: Essential principles and practices for machine guarding to prevent workplace injuries. The session will cover types of guards, inspection protocols, and compliance with OSHA regulations.

• Forklift Safety: Safe operation practices for forklifts, emphasizing operator training certifications, inspection procedures, and document retention. Participants will gain insights into hazard recognition and accident prevention strategies.


Speaker Biography
Brandon Gentry is a Certified Safety Professional with a degree in Occupational Safety and Health and nearly twenty years of experience in the OHS Field. Brandon has been with Reddy Ice for five years and is Reddy Ice’s Manager of Field Safety. In addition to Food Manufacturing, Brandon has been in Safety Management for the Steel, Heavy Manufacturing, Construction, Transportation, and Facility Services Industries.
